Health is Wealth

Care your tooth for better Smile
“Health is Wealth”.  With this in mind the Sisters and staff of FIDES, (Family Integral Development Education Scheme) organised a medical camp for screening and treatment of EYE, DENTAL and ENT on 9th  October,  2012 in the premises of the Sacred Heart Convent of the Salesian Sisters, Bandapura, Bangalore - 49. The programme began with the arrival of Sri Aravind Limbavali, the honourable Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka. He was welcomed by Arathi and garlanding and led to the dais with the Auxilium School band. The candidates performed a prayer dance invoking God’s presence and blessing. The Minister and other dignitaries lighted the kuthuvilakku to remind all of the presence of God almighty. The  presence of Mr. Ashwathiah, Asst. Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Bangalore (Retd),  Sr. Alice Chacko, Director of Deenabandhu Mahila Co-operative Society and Vice Provincial of Bangalore Province and Mr. Rudrappa, Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Bangalore, and many local political leaders enhanced the importance of the day.

The Focus of our medical camp was to provide medical assistance to the poor people of the 10 villages and 2 slums Ulsoor and Kaverinagar. This was a golden opportunity for the people to test their vision, treat their sickness and care for their teeth.  During the camp 21 persons with cataract were identified and operated free of cost. They were provided food and accommodation in the hospital for a day and taken care of by the staff. They were also given sun  glasses for further protection of the eyes.  People with defective vision were tested and given spectacles with the right power at free of cost.   A great job was done to most of them who were in one way or the other in need of ENT treatment. The patients were tested and given necessary medicines.

The Dental check up also helped many either to extract their teeth or get them cleaned.  Some of them were given medicines for timely relief and were to be followed up for further dental care. About 1000 people attended and benefitted from the camp.

We are grateful to all the doctors and nurses of the following Hospitals who have rendered their valuable service
